Ngo The Vinh graduated from University of Saigon, Vietnam in 1968.

  • Staff member, then editor-in-chief of the magazine Tinh Thuong (Compassion), a forum for cultural and social activism of students of Faculty of Medicine in Saigon.
  • A former ARVN 81st Airborne Ranger who served as a Green Beret M.D. during the Vietnam War
  • Visiting Fellow in Rehabilitation Medicine at Letterman General Hospital  in San Francisco then served as staff  physician at Military Medical College in Saigon
  • After 1975, imprisoned in different  re-education camps in South Vietnam for 3 years.
  • After release, worked as a Physiatrist at Saigon Rehabilitation Centre and the School of Physiotherapy, Saigon.
  • Arrived in the United States in 1983
  • Clinical Fellow at USC School of Medicine, Los Angeles; then Resident Physician in Internal Medicine in SUNY Downstate at Brooklyn New York;
  • A Board Certified internist, an Attending physician and  an Asst. Clin. Prof. at UC-Irvine College of Medicine. 

Ngo The Vinh currently lives in Southern California.

A widely renowned writer, his novel “Vong Dai Xanh” (The Green Belt) was awarded one of  the 1971 National Prizes for Literature and Arts. Ironically the same author was summoned to the court of law in connection of his short work entitled “Mat Tran o Saigon” (The Battle of Saigon) that “contains arguments that are detrimental to public order and serve to undermine the discipline and fighting spirit of the army.” This writer’s indictement did create heated controversy and was a hot topic of discussion.
